Security assessments are offered by the Martinsville Police Department and are conducted by a Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services-certified crime prevention specialist. Assessments are completed on businesses, churches, schools, and residences to increase safety and security.
Procedure
Officers will begin with an on-site assessment to gather information such as building layout and operations. Property owners or staff members are always included in this process. Once the on-site assessment has been completed and photographed, the crime prevention specialist will complete a report.
Report
The report is provided to the requesting party and a copy is kept on file at the police department. The report is confidential as it will contain potential strengths and weaknesses of the building as well as security recommendations. Typically a security presentation or meeting is held to review the report. The security assessments are recommendations, not requirements.
